Hi, I saw you on Dave's so I thought I'd come post over here. I'm investigating general cost of living in South America. Preparing to go for 7 or 8 months. How much would a 1 br apartment in Valparaiso cost with electric and internet? Is the internet fast and reliable, I'll be teaching online classes for Korean elementary schoolers. How about Santiago? What other cities in Chile are nice, peaceful, cheap, safe, and/or laid back?

Hi, Sorry about the late reply but there's just so much work around that I find it hard to say 'No'!! Unfortunately, I know little about the cost of living in Valparaíso but I'm sure it's similar to Santiago. My suggestion would be to flat share seeing as you're here short term. Jump on www.compartodepto.cl. Here you can find somewhere to live that will almost surely have Wifi installed. Chile is very Wifi-friendly. I reckon a nice place would cost you between $150,000 and $200,000 per month including expenses (gas, water, electricity). Chileans generally respect privacy and make good roomies! Seeing as finding work where you live is not important let me also recommend the picturesque towns of Valdivia, Villarrica, La Serena and Elqui Valley. Hope that helps, El Profe
