Hello, I've been living and teaching in Santiago for two years. I decided to start this forum to build a community to share tips about working and living in Chile. If you have a question or some information to pass on about schools, visas, living costs or anything related to the survival of English teachers here, please leave a message on the relevant board. It's very much a work in progress but with some co-operation from you and others we can create a network from which we can all benefit. All suggestions are gratefully received and in the coming weeks I'll be looking for some people to moderate the boards. Please let me know if you are interested.
If you've just joined, say Hi! Welcome to Se Habla Inglés Best regards, El Profe.

Hello, I'm an English teacher in Quetzaltenango, Xela. Next year I would like to teach in Chile, and would appreciate any tips on schools, hiring times, pay, cities, visas, etc., that anyone might have. Thanks

Yo El Profe and All,
I'm arriving in Santiago on or about 10 Feb, 2010 to teach at DuocUC. I'm looking forward to meeting lots of new friends among TESOL professionals in Chile, as well as folks in other professions. There will be about 50 of us arriving from USA, Canada, Britain, Australia, (I'm guessing at countries of origin) to teach at 7 different DuocUC campuses in Santiago, Vina, Valpo, and Concepcion. I'm hoping this forum will maintain high level of positive interaction!

Since we all have prearranged contracts with DuocUC we'll be sufficiently occupied to avoid competing with ESL folks already in Chile. We're supporting the "English Opens Doors" emphasis at DuocUC, which apparently has a growing ESL emphasis for all students

Hey all, Just a run of the mill newbie here. Thought about teaching English for about 2 years before I went to Costa Rica and finally got my TEFL Cert. Now I'm searching for a job from my boyfriend's flat in Athens Greece. Any tips on schools that are currently hiring would be greatly appreciated.
